Joseph Gardner finally paid for his crimes. He is finally taking the "celestrial dirt nap." As detailed in my book, South Carolina Killers: Crimes of Passion, Gardner and several other men decided to rectify 400 years of racial injustice by kidnapping, raping and murdering 25-year-old Missy McLauchlin in 1992.
On Dec. 5, 2008, Gardner was executed in South Carolina. The other two men convicted of rape and murder, Matthew Mack and Matthew Williams, are eligible for parole in 2014.
